Electoral and Political Reform Multiple levels of governmentCost not yet known

Practise internal democracy before demanding it

The problem

Internal party democracy is widely acknowledged as weak, and parties calling for electoral reform rarely apply it to themselves.

Why it matters

A party that appoints its own leadership without a real process has no standing to demand better of anyone else.

Proposed solution

Publish our own internal leadership terms, the two-term limit, and organisational election records, and hold organisational elections with independent review.

How it would be implemented

Term limits are enforced in software on a position equivalence key, so renaming a post cannot reset the count. Term history is public.

Risks, and what we would do about them

Risk

Internal democracy is slower and can be destabilising in a young organisation.

Mitigation

We accept the cost. The alternative is a party that is one person's property, which is what we exist to avoid.
